Small bees

Bees under about a centimeter — including sweat bees, some a brilliant metallic green. Quick and easy to overlook.

What to look for

  • Smaller than a grain of rice to ~1 cm
  • Some are metallic green or dark
  • Fast, darting movement
  • Easy to miss — look closely

Flies have big eyes, short antennae, and only two wings.
